If you’re a novice pro scooter rider pegs are an optional add-on. However, for those who prefer the street, they are definitely worth investing in. They will undoubtedly enhance the range of tricks you can do and if you’re not too fussy about the pegs interfering with your style of riding they are worth the money.
However, regardless of whether you ride park or street, or are a novice or experienced, having pegs is never a bad thing. Why? Because you can, of course, take them off or put them on as and when you like. So, if you tried them once and they didn’t take, but a few weeks later you feel the urge to give them another go, they’re right there waiting and ready to deploy into action.
And even if you’re convinced that are wrong for you, one of your buddies will get the idea at some point that they want pegs and who better to sell a brand new/barely used pair than you?
It’s not just the pegs that make the ride, though. When you’re buying you need to be sure that you’re getting the pro scooter that is best suited to you. There are a couple of things worth taking into consideration to this end:
1) Your level
Are you a total newbie? Might be best suited to a lightweight scooter with a wide deck that has 100mm wheels. If you’re beyond still learning, then upgrading your scooter to incorporate features such as a hidden internal compression system, larger wheels and a slightly more durable body is advisable. Once you’re at an advanced all about the parts.
The largest wheels will give you more speed and you’ll be seeking out specific parts crafted from high-end materials as well as a standard compression system.
2) Your size
There’s no point investing in a scooter that is too big for you right now just to save some money. It just won’t be fit for purpose and will see you get injured more often than you would like. So, you are always better off buying a scooter that suits your size now. How do you know what’s right?
Well, when standing on the deck, the bars should come up to your waist and should be about shoulder width apart. The deck should comfortably accommodate your feet. In terms of weight, lighter is better if you’re short, or just starting out.
It may seem like there are a few things to consider and parts and what not, but rest assured that at SkateConnection.com.au our friendly team of industry experts can talk you through any issue and get you riding with confidence in no time.
